Abstract
Some of us are blessed to have seen the proverbial light bulb go off in our heads and found a way to solve a very difficult problem. In popular literature it has been commonly characterized as a spontaneous event out of the blue. In this paper, we would like to relate two of these flashes that happens to us about 10 years ago.

Abstract
The paper look at the ways electronics companies in Vietnam learn their technological capabilities (TC). The paper bases on the study done during 1992-1994 in ten electronics firms in Vietnam. The study used the taxonomy of six technological capabilities: investment, production, minor technical change, marketing, linkage and major technical change as the framework to asses technology competence of the firms. Also, to look at the learning activities of the firms, the study divided learning into various formats and types like learning-by-doing, and other more active learning forms. By examining these forms, the study aims to identify problems that Vietnamese electronics firms have to face in their learning process to accumulate technological capabilities. In the last part, the paper looks at how four groups of external factors and interactive behaviour of these firms influence their learning.
